The Advanced Art of a Photo Caption

We do it all the time, post an amazing picture on our social media and then… we contemplate, for some of us it can feel like hours. Sometimes the process can be so overwhelming we might give up posting our photo all together, because we just don’t know what in the world to write.

There are many ways to go about finding the perfect caption. Some describe a recent event, maybe what they were doing when they took the picture. Others find quotes or lyrics to be more fitting for their latest picture, while others just apply an emoji or leave the caption blank all together!

So, how do we simplify this process? What is a fool-proof way to caption a photograph? I guess the simple truth is there isn’t one.

Here is one idea that I haven’t seen many people catch onto quite yet. That is the art communities perspective on naming a work of art. Many times artists find a way to look at their art from a very new point of view, something outside of the box. A title that will force the viewer to create their own perspective on what the art means to them.

Allowing the viewer to come to their own opinion is engaging and creates an environment of active participation for the audience. Leaving the work of art as an open ended question in turn creates a new world of answers. With social media being a place of audience engagement.. this form of photo caption may trigger some interesting comments from your viewers.

Also, the caption should emphasis the focal point of the photograph. Let’s say the photo is of you, and the sun is shining bright in the photo you may want to mention something of the sun. Quotes are cool, but what is even better is an original idea. Try “The Sun On My Shoulders” This type of title keeps things interesting, and lets the viewer do a double take of your photograph. Creating an atmosphere of art appreciation and intrigue in the detail of what you just posted.

Another good way to develop your caption is to ask someone you trust what they see when they look at the photo, what is the first thing they think of or notice? Let’s say their answer is: “The Beautiful Sandy Beach” you could go with that alone or change it up a little; “Sand~Beach – Beautiful” Get creative and have some fun!

If the photograph exhibits something beyond descriptive, or focal words caption through an emotional context. Your photo may be black and white, with two people hugging, a great way to capture the emotion would be “A True Bond” and even better take a common word like ‘true’ and search for a less common word like ‘faithful’ or ‘sincere’ or another word for ‘bond’ like ‘promise’ or ‘pledge.’

This opens up a world of captions, doesn’t it?

Although, this is just a photo for social media, this is also probably something meaningful to you that could use a bit more attention from your viewers, right? So, putting in the extra effort is worth it and can make your feed come to life.

(I should mention; only put in as much effort as you actually want the viewers to pay attention. Do not over sell your picture if it just doesn’t warrant that kind of regard. Match your caption with how you feel about your photo, always.)

Cure City Stress with Urban Enchantment. An article on LoFi Music.

The last decade has brought out some pretty experimental music. Soundcloud and other streaming apps, allow for more artists and creators to get music streaming to the masses. So, what is it about “Lo-Fi” (Low Fidelity) music that has people hooked and listening, over and over again in recent years?

LoFi seems to give the same psychological effect as meditation music, and helps the listeners focus on studying, work or other activities with more ease. LoFi music creates a sound that is not only serene but also has some characteristics you won’t find in traditional meditation music. Bridging gaps between genres that are already very popular.

The sound quality and ‘imperfectness’ of these songs are what remind listeners of the natural thing that we find in nature, nature sounds, and art aesthetics. With less focus on creating a perfect masterpiece, the artist focuses attention on the overall enchantment that the sound brings to the listener.

In many cases this music has an urban twist to it that other calming and transcendent music from the past has lacked. We have heard nature sounds plenty over the years, but is that to say we only feel peace and calm outside of the city? No.

LoFi shows that the city is actually a place to experience soul-earth connection just as much as the natural world. LoFi is a sound connected to the real urban and concrete jungle many live in and experience today.

A major characteristic of LoFi music, is it’s inability to be defined. Many LoFi artists create a smooth blend-in-ability and an almost anonymity feeling to the artist and listener alike. The chill and ethereal sound is soothing and slow-paced in a very high strung technological world. Taking the hustle and bustle out of things, and replacing it with the keys to simplicity. The sound seems to help bring our consciousness to an efficient oneness with our surroundings. Suddenly, we feel our movements move with the music and our spirits seem to chill, focus and breathe.

In a way, the sound we hear inside of LoFi beats helps to detach the listener from their heavy and stress filled world; while also reattaching them to their higher, less perplexed auras. A mix of two things that we love about music and meditation alike. With more and more dependence and reliance on computers and media, we find lo-fi becoming even more popular, bringing with it a feeling of reminiscing whilst creating something new.

From Lo-Fi’s early introduction in the late 80’s(see Nujabes and J Dilla) and progression into what we love from this genre today, LoFi beats seem to be outlasting and ramping up listenership across the globe. Uniting our favorite elements of music into easy listening, and curing people of their overwhelmed and stressed out moods. Lo-Fi has changed the way we view music, technology, the city and new age all together. Low Fidelity music has combined all of these things into a niche subgroup~ a niche now becoming a major genre amongst listeners of every age, culture and environment.

The next time you need some new creative juices, or extra focus when you just can’t seem to muster up the strength, turn on some LoFi beats. You will soon find yourself sinking into the musics soul vibes.

Meditative Words

Some words to focus on when practicing mindfulness and developing skills to de-stress. I am going to make a word jar (with these words in it) to pull out some meditation when I need some ZEN. 🙂

Baking Soda; the miracle.

Baking soda or Sodium Bicarbonate is derived from the natural mineral called Natron.

Humans produce acid with almost all bodily functions. Acid helps in many of the processes our bodies under go to keep us alive and healthy. The thing we often do not realize is the over abundance of Acid that is detrimental to our over all well being.

This over abundance of acid can cause many different problems from heart burn to longer term negative health effects such as osteoporosis. Also, feelings of inflammation and gas are irritated by acid and actually cause a lot of the fatigue and headaches we as humans tend to experience on a day to day basis.

That is where the alkaline chemistry and all of its divinity come into relieve our pain caused by an extreme imbalance in our pH levels.

The opposite end of this acid-alkaline spectrum can be found in baking soda, a cheap, inexpensive, easily accessible mineral derivative. A small amount mixed in with water can reduce the un-ease and rawness of high acidic levels.

There are other benefits of ingesting a small amount of baking soda from reducing and eliminating acne, to calming an upset stomach. Also, of course the use of baking soda as a cleaning ingredient. Eliminating stains from teeth and also as a gentle exfoliant for the skin. Because of its anti-septic properties baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate is a miracle that we often overlook.

Being more aware of our pH levels on the acid-alkaline scale is a huge asset to further our health and overall life. Of course to much of this mineral derivative can also have poor effects as with any other induction to our living bodies. The key here is balance, how every scale should be placed.

New Moon, New Year, New Decade!

A new decade can only happen once every 10 years, a new year once a year and a new moon once a month, and all of these things will be co-happening on January 24th, 2020.

This is the absolute perfect time to be making long term goals. With the Aquarian energy, the new year energy and the new moon energy you can expect that whatever you put special attention on during this moon phase, you will see returns!

Let’s also use this time to reflect on what we loved from 2019 once more before finally going forth. Give thanks to whatever served you in 2019 and appreciate that whatever happened made you stronger and more ready for your journey ahead.

A new moon is a great time to reflect as well as plan ahead, and I think an even better idea is to reflect back on the entire decade! What did you learn in the last ten years? What was your biggest lesson and what will you be taking with you moving forward?

A decade vision board couldn’t be too broad of a vision could it? Maybe, but I am sure you have some long term goals you could give some attention to. Add in some finer details. What color will you paint your new house, or where will you eat on your anniversary.. Sometimes painting little pieces of the puzzle can really push you to achieving what you set out to do. Or if relaxing, and feeling good is more on your agenda, what color mood lights should you get for your bedroom?

Looking to buy new electronics, this would be a good time to set that search in motion. The Aquarian energy can give a boost to electronics, and technology. If you are planning any group events, Aquarius will lend their hand for you there too. Planning a surprise party for a loved one or co worker, or even just going to the museum with family, Aquarius is in.

All this new energy can get a little overwhelming but this is a great time to multiply your outcome and really set a plan to push you through the year and beyond.

2 Mile Run: The Importance of Rest

Today I went on my first long distance run in a long time. I was sweaty, hot and encouraged. The cool air and the beautiful river beside me felt fresh. When I was ready to give up, I took a rest and then had the energy to keep pushing. I love how a couple minutes of rest can reset your entire outlook.

Instead of whining and saying no, just take a break. That is the ONLY thing you need to do when you start working out. Just take a break. The rest will give you time to regain a balance on your emotions and the burn in your limbs. Even if your break is a day, or a few hours or a few days, the best part about starting a more healthy and fit lifestyle is that it is on your terms!

There is no right way to begin being healthy. Any walk, lap or sit up will be one more than you had done previously. The only difference between pushing yourself to your absolute limits and just adding exercises here and there is the time in which you will see external results. Those external results come from extreme self-discipline either very quickly and strong-willed or more of a slow pace that builds over the years.

So, while I was running today, I decided I didn’t HAVE to. I could stop at any time and that alone gave me back my control. No, I do not have to work out. I do not have to run this last block, this last couple of feet. But I am in control of that and I get to decide where I want to push my body. The pain is of my choosing and that 1 or 2 minutes of rest in between some very difficult internal battles, is all I needed to recognize that I am in control here. Nothing else but me.

Pain is a very interesting thing, because even when the pain is good, it still hurts on some level. That hurt is scary but it is not impossible. The best part is you get to decide when to experience that pain, when you don’t want to and also you get to decide what that pain means to you. Does it mean, you have control? Does it mean you are in charge of this body and this beauty with in? Yes.

Fitness: My Journey

Since I have obtained sobriety and am free from all of my party ways, I have found myself looking to fill my time. I want to work on this stronger, healthier, and more authentic version of myself. The first step on that journey was getting sober and staying that way! This took a lot more work than I ever expected.

Now that I am on the other side of sobriety and can assure myself that I have zero desire to fall back into old habits, I want to work on creating some new ones. In comes a favorite of mine, fitness.

Since I was young I have enjoyed activities based on physical agility and drive. Sports, track and field, soccer, really anything that involves some physical movement has always made me smile (as it does most people, actually).

That is why after many years of being back and forth with any athletic pursuits, I have decided to dive in to full body work outs. HIIT sessions are a great way to raise the heart rate, burn deeply while at the same time, constantly changing your sets to keep working out; fun and fast paced. Which are the two keys, (fun and fast paced) that made me fall in love with athletics at a young age.

So, with 2020 right around the corner I felt it was the perfect time to commit myself to the fit and healthy me I know I am inside! Although it is 2020 soon, the New Year itself did not spark this motivation.

Even while I was actively using, drinking, and partying.. every month or so I would go through this huge over drive and purge my self of all of my bad habits for a day, a week, or sometimes longer. Very sporadically I would decide I needed an over haul. So I would do that, change my entire life in one day. That would last for a little then I would go right back to my familiar routines and of course drinking and only worsening my health and state of mind.

One thing is certain though, even when I was at the lowest of some of my lows, my physical activity and health were always on my mind. I guess we can see what kind of damage we are doing, even if we don’t have the basic tools to help change that damage, at the time.

This is the first time the thought of getting fit and healthy isn’t overtaking my every thought or putting some huge amount of pressure on me. Instead it is bringing my excitement and a feeling of self-control which is much needed in my life.

The ability to control something. The ability to create something new. To re-create me!

On December 20, 2019 I am joining the gym! This is going to be a huge step on my recovery journey. I have joined gyms before with anxiety always jumping in the way of my goals. I always felt afraid to be on my own in a gym, overwhelmed and now that I am aware of why, and how I feel those things, they have become a lot simpler to navigate.

The gym is going to be a great place to feel my sobriety and also work on my body, mind, and spirit! Since, exercise also benefits your mood, and attitude you could say it deeply improves your mind’s function and your overall spiritual well-being.

I will be combining HIIT sessions, the gym, and biking into a set routine to bring me into 2020, and the future. Also, I will continue backpacking/hiking too!

This is the most calm, and excited I have been to take on a new project in a very long, long, long time. Words can’t even explain where I am at in my head this past year. It has been full of good and bad days, but something in me clicked. I am finally able to see where I’m able to go, not just where I came from! The future is bright friends! xo.
